Walking paths and promenades in Merano

Leisurely walks around PINEA Garden Aparthotel Merano

Merano is wonderfully easy to discover on foot from PINEA Garden Aparthotel Merano. Quiet lanes winding through the elegant Maia Alta residential district begin right outside your door. From here, you can easily reach Merano’s famous promenades or set off on scenic trails above the town. For destinations slightly further afield, the nearest bus stop is located just 100 metres from the property.

Whether it is a leisurely stroll through town, a shaded path alongside the water, or a longer walk with your dog, the possibilities are diverse and appealing in every season. Furthermore, our concierge service knows plenty of wonderful walking routes and is always delighted to recommend options for your active holiday in Italy tailored to your preferred distance and the mood of the day.

Through the Obermais residential area

Even the walk from the aparthotel towards the historic town centre is well worth it. Obermais is one of Merano’s most beautiful residential areas and is characterised by historic villas, well-tended gardens and quiet streets and alleys lined with lush greenery. A stroll from the aparthotel takes about 15 minutes to reach the old town.

Tappeiner walk

High above the rooftops of Merano lies one of the town’s most famous walking trails. Mediterranean flora lines the four-kilometre route. Time and again, the view opens up over the old town, the Burggrafenamt and as far as the peaks of the Texel Group. Despite its panoramic setting, the Tappeiner walk is easy to follow and is ideal for a longer stroll.

Summer Promenade
Summer Promenade

On warm days, the summer promenade is at its most beautiful. Large, old trees along the River Passer provide plenty of shade, making the walk a good choice even when temperatures are high. The murmur of the river accompanies your stroll through a particularly green part of Merano.

Winter Promenade

On the opposite bank of the Passer lies the Winter Promenade, featuring the historic promenade hall. Its architecture and the large-scale depictions of South Tyrolean landscapes serve as a reminder of Merano’s history as a spa town. The walk combines a leisurely stroll along the river with a glimpse into the town’s history.

These irrigation trails are amongst the most beautiful routes for exploring the countryside around Merano at a leisurely pace. Running alongside historic irrigation channels, the three best-known irrigation trails – the Marling, Algund and Maiser trails – wind their way through vineyards, orchards and woods with only gentle inclines. Along the way, there are frequent stunning views across the Merano countryside and the surrounding mountains.
